Dependency and Neglect:
Protecting the Fundamental Right to Parent
We provide compassionate and skilled legal representation to parents facing allegations of child abuse and neglect, which may have resulted in the removal of their children from their home. We help clients navigate the rehabilitation and reunification process, advocating for their interests and goals when interacting with the Department of Human Services and the juvenile courts. We work with clients to develop a plan that addresses the safety concerns resulting in the Department's involvement and helps clients create a safe and stable environment for the children's return home if they were removed from the client’s care. We understand the complexities of these cases and work tirelessly to achieve the best possible outcome for our clients.
Guardianship / Conservatorship:
Protecting Vulnerable Adults Through Guardianship / Conservatorship Proceedings
We provide legal representation for vulnerable adults involved in legal guardianship/conservatorship proceedings in probate court. Vulnerable adults are individuals over the age of 18 who cannot care for themselves due to age, illness, or disability. A conservatorship allows a responsible person to manage the vulnerable adult’s finances and assets. A guardianship allows a responsible person to manage the vulnerable person’s day-to-day health, safety, and welfare. Our work may include services as Respondent’s Counsel to provide legal counsel and representation to the client and as Guardian ad Litem to investigate the concerns and make recommendations to the court in line with the client’s best interests. Supported Decision-Making may be considered, in place of a guardianship, on a case-by-case basis, which can be advantageous for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, individuals struggling with a mental health diagnosis, and elderly individuals.

A Little About Me
I have three passions in life: higher consciousness, children and social justice. I feel honored to pursue and elevate my passions through my family law practice.
I’ve been an attorney for over two decades. I began my law practice in California after earning my Juris Doctorate Cum Laude from Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles, California. I represented commercial general liability insurance companies and advised them in handling complex construction defect claims, including negotiation, mediation and litigation of matters related to insurance coverage. Pursuing my interest in higher consciousness, I studied at the University of Santa Monica and earned a Master’s Degree in Spiritual Psychology with an emphasis on Consciousness, Health and Healing.
In 2007, my family moved to Colorado Springs to enjoy a slower pace of life. Initially, I volunteered with CASA of the Pikes Peak Region as a Court-Appointed Special Advocate for children in high-conflict divorce cases. This experience sparked my interest in family law, where I would have the opportunity to combine my legal skills with the principles of Spiritual Psychology.
Generally, a client comes to me during a very difficult time in their life. They’ve been living with conflict for a while and are now facing the
challenges of dissolving a significant relationship. Often, it gets more complex and challenging when children are involved.
As an attorney, I clearly help the client navigate the legal system. I aim to obtain the best result for them and their family through negotiation, mediation or litigation. As a counselor at law, I offer my clients a higher perspective on their situation so that their choices are from a conscious, heart-centered place rather than reacting to the distress of the situation before them. I listen deeply, see clearly through the clutter of a situation and offer solutions that will impact how the client approaches their life beyond their current situation.
I’ve had the privilege of living on three continents and within diverse cultures. I’ve also had times when I worked two part-time jobs and attended college, and the only dinner I could afford was two hot dogs for a dollar from 7-11. Through my broad and varied experiences in life, I have found a deep appreciation for the fullness of the human experience and have learned to meet it head-on with honesty, compassion and focused intention.
One of the greatest lessons I have mastered is to discern my voice from the crowd around me and to speak it with courage, truth and integrity. In my daily life, I aim to give full expression to that Divine Light that resides in me, you, and every soul on this planet.

She heard my story and did a fantastic job helping me re-tell it. She is filled with compassion, understanding and integrity. Her way with words is phenomenal both in writing and in speech. Dealing with parenting issues is very stressful and unsettling but having her represent me calmed my nerves and gave me piece of mind. She is amazing and I would highly recommend her if you find yourself needing representation." – K.W.
"I have known Rita for over two decades as a fellow attorney. Throughout those years,in every aspect of her life and work, she has been honest, thoughtful and thorough. She represents her clients with compassion and truly listens to their needs. Having Rita as your attorney means you are not only getting A+ representation but you are getting guidance and advice from a person who genuinely cares. "I hired Rita when I was going through my divorce. I wanted an attorney who could get the job done in a loving, kind and direct way. She was able to help me come to an agreement that was a win/win for my children, myself and my ex without any nastiness. I appreciated her direct approach and ability to communicate clearly to both myself and my ex. My intention was to make it through my divorce with as much love and kindness as possible when going through such a life altering situation. Rita helped me do that exact thing." – S.F

"My initial experience in the family law court system left me feeling helpless, powerless and scared. Rita offered a heart-centered and conscious pursuit towards an agreeable resolution focused primarily on the well-being of the children. This in turn provided a catalyst for my own personal growth and awareness while acknowledging and setting aside my own sense of injustice and perception of inequality. I have much gratitude for and still apply her heart-centered and conscious wisdom and techniques to my daily life and am able to co-parent harmoniously and effortlessly. Rita will help you find and embrace your silver linings!!!!" – S.H.
